Two ways to experience the gong.
Learn to play in a hands-on workshop with David Tran, exploring technique, instruments and sound. Or lie back and receive in an immersive gong orchestra, where multiple players fill the room with layers of resonance. Create sound, receive sound — or experience both.
David Tran: Back to Gong
Strike One: Back to Gong
You've heard a gong. Maybe at the end of a yoga class, maybe at a festival, maybe here at The Rogue Room. But have you ever actually played one?
This three-hour session scratches the surface, in the best possible way. David walks you through the different types of gongs, the mallets, the flumies, the technique, and then hands them over. You'll play. You'll experience what it feels like to put sound vibrations into the world.
No prior experience. No instruments to bring. No expectation that you'll leave a master. But if sound is something you've been curious about, as a practice, a creative outlet, or a path you might want to go deeper on, this is a good place to find out.
Who it's for: anyone sonic-curious. Yoga teachers wanting to add sound to their toolkit, complete beginners, and everyone in between. Even if you are a seasoned sound practitioner, there’s always more to learn.
The session covers types of gongs and instruments, mallet and flumie technique, basic strokes, and guided hands-on practice in small groups.
Come as you are. A handful of gongs and mallets will be available to share. Feel free to bring your own instruments if you have any.

Strike Two: Immersive Gong Orchestra
Multiple gongs. Multiple players. Frequencies layering from every direction.
This is an immersive 90-minute experience, not a class, not a performance, something in between. David and a handful of the sound artists he trained in London take the room. You just need to show up and let it land.
Lie down. Close your eyes. Surrender.
The gong orchestra format is rare. Most sound experiences feature a single practitioner. Here, the room fills with overlapping resonance, deeper, fuller, and more physically felt. It's not a gentle drift to sleep. It's a full-body recalibration.
Who it's for: anyone who wants an experience they won't quite have words for afterward. Come tired, come stressed, come curious. Leave altered.
Mats, bolsters, blankets, and eye pillows are available. Feel free to bring your own, a favourite blanket, pillow, or anything that helps you feel at home on the floor.
