Ibiza

Not just a ritual; a lifestyle.

Music enables us to access new worlds within our yoga practice.

Health-Driven Hedonism

Building on the similarities between experiencing a flow state and letting go on the dancefloor, The Rogue Room partners yoga-sequencing with high-voltage dance music.

Rip-roaring tunes rumble like the underground, summoning energetic shifts within the body and mind. Read how music impacts the teaching styles of London's top yoga facilitators here.

Listen up.

Flow is defined as an optimal state of consciousness, a state where you feel your best and perform your best. Moments of rapt attention and total absorption, also known as a higher state of consciousness. We believe in the power of electronic music to facilitate flow. The Rogue Room brings these two worlds into convergence. The Rogue Room is where club culture meets rebellious wellness.

TEACH BY BEATS

Teach by Beats is our ongoing editorial pillar that goes some way to articulate the essential role that music plays on the path to wellness.

  • For me the music brings my class to another level, with careful planning I take the class from chilled to uplifting and then back down at the end, setting the mood for each part of the class. I try to talk to the beat so it feels like it all flows together. Music is super important to me in my class as we know music affects parts of the brain that can control emotions, it helps bring students into the practice on a deeper level perhaps.

  • I spend a lot of time listening to different styles and choosing tracks that have a lot of emotion in them, are well produced and for the flow section have a good strong beat. For the end of class, I like to choose more classical or film scores, with strings and pianos, I find this creates a wonderful atmosphere.

  • Tumbara - Duality - great for Sun Salutations

  • Max Richter - On the Nature of Daylight a simple magical beautiful track from the film Arrival one of my favs!

  • Music is as important as asana and breath. It’s a vehicle to guide us where we need to go, what we need to experience and release within ourselves

  • I’m looking for something that pulls me in, something that gravitates to my heart and soul makes the grade

  • That’s a difficult one as there are different stages to a class. At the moment a track that resonates with me is Tornado Wallace ‘Voices’

  • Lauris Anderson ‘Kokoku’ / Mary Lattimore 'Jimmy V’ / Arthur Russell ’Soon-To-Be Innocent Fun/Lets See

  • Because we are vibrational beings, I believe sound has a profound effect on our physical and energetic bodies - so I’d say it’s essential. In fact, I came into my energy work practice through raving. I was dancing for hours on end at an outdoor party when I realized sound and movement allowed me to access higher states of consciousness. This ultimately led me into energy work. When I work on others, the music selection is paramount — I think it makes the body more receptive to healing. I also work in ceremonial settings that incorporate traditional sacred/vibrational instruments.

  • Since I’m a DJ, too, digging is one of my favourite things to do. I love making curated playlists for my sessions that incorporate my favourite ambient tracks, as well as songs with traditional instruments.

  • Either “Two Thousand and Seventeen” by Four Tet or “Tonalis” by Grant Aaron. Both put me into an incredibly deep, meditative state. Just gorgeous, resonant tracks.

  • “Rev8617” by Skee Mask or “Means Nothing” by Otik. Two of my favorites, and both are so emotionally potent.
